DIS - Display single image using ImageMagick

(11/21/19)

PURPOSE

Display single SPIDER or MRC image using ImageMagick. Requires that your system has Imagemagick installed and accessible as: 'convert' and 'display'. Assumes that SPIDER images are 'Most significant byte first' which is usually true and that the images may have negative intensities.   Example.

SEE ALSO

CP TO JPG [Copy SPIDER file to a JPEG format]
DIS REL [Display image(s) using Relion_display]

USAGE

.OPERATION: DIS

.SPIDER OR MRC INPUT FILE: PIC001
[Enter name of the SPIDER or MRC image file. Does not work with bare (whole) stacks. Automatically creates a JPEG copy of the image with the same filename but having '.jpg' extension. This conversion is necessary to handle any negative densities found in SPIDER images.]

If file contains a volume SPIDER asks:

.SLICE NUMBER: 18
[Enter number of Z slice to be displayed.]

.IMAGEMAGICK DISPLAY OPTIONS (or <CR>): -resize 50%
[Enter any valid option for the Imagemagick display command.]

NOTES

  1. The origin and handedness of data in a MRC is NOT defined by any MRC file standard. It varies by software! Thus display of a MRC image from software other than SPIDER may yield a mirrored result.

  2. Rapid consecutive creation and display of the same named image may give confusing displays as the non-blocking display code gets out of synchronization.
