that your system has
installed and accessible as: 'convert' and 'display'.
Assumes that SPIDER images are 'Most significant byte first'
which is usually true and that the images may have

JPEG copy of the image with the same filename but
having '.jpg' extension. This conversion is necessary to

The origin and handedness of data in a MRC is NOT
defined by any MRC file standard. It varies by software!
Thus display of a MRC image from software other than SPIDER
may yield a mirrored result.
Rapid consecutive creation and display of the same named image
may give confusing displays as the non-blocking display code
gets out of synchronization.
